The Inspection
On the whole, the weather had been temperamental lately. One minute, it was absolutely bucketing it down, and the next, it was bright sunshine. The amount of rain had turned the ground into a muddy mess, but at least the tents provided perfectly adequate shelter, and a gazebo had been erected over the community dining table to protect everyone from the elements.
Despite the temperamental weather, however, it had been fairly warm throughout the past two weeks, so the chill in the air during dinner that evening was particularly noticeable, even before the dark, hooded figure by the Ministry's representative's desk had been seen.
Nervously, the Ministry representative approached the table.
"I'm afraid we have a visitor," he said, addressing everyone at the table and hoping that anyone not there could hear him. "This is a Dementor, one of the Guards at Azkaban. It's a high security prison. He's just here to, well, ensure that a certain escaped criminal isn't hiding amongst you.
"I don't expect he'll be here for more than an half an hour, so do try not to worry too much. They can make people rather, well... uncomfortable."
Bowing his head slightly, he left the Outsiders to their meal.
[And so, a Dementor is lurking around the camp, just in case one of the Outsiders is secretly Sirius Black. They're known to sap the happiness out of the environment, and - in cases where there are true horrors in someone's past - cause traumatic memories to resurface.
The chilly, depressed feeling can be lifted by the deliciousness of chocolate, though the Outsiders will need to discover this on their own. Good thing there's dessert.]

[...the magic Vaati had in his dreams was weird, but it didn't count, and he must have seen this version of him from the drawing in a dream somewhere before, long ago...]
I can control the wind.
[A pause, and he stared down at the sketch again, suddenly feeling confused.]
I don't have any of the powers I drew here, but I....I have a feeling I should.
[He couldn't shake off that feeling at all.]
no subject
You can control the wind? Really?
[His eyes are glittering in awe and amazement now and he pushes the parchment aside, leaning forward a little to watch Vaati carefully and curiously.]
Can... I see?
((i didn't get the notification for this reply at all AAAH))
[Vaati barely knew any of the wind-related spells from this world, let alone have a wand...but he knew his old magic still worked, for sure.
Clasping his hands together tightly, he felt a warm breeze as he worked the spell. Then he breathed out gently, spreading his arms out in front of him, and all of a sudden a gale of wind burst forth from his hands, whirling around the tent.
Before long his books, parchment and quills were spinning round him wildly, but Vaati just continued to sit there on his bed, grinning from ear to ear.]
IT'S COOL I'm a patient girl.
Wow! That's... really cool...!
[Yep. He's easily impressed, Vaati, so enjoy your ego stroking.]

[He...he hadn't had this much fun in a long time. He hadn't let himself have this much fun. Vaati's grin grew even wider the wilder the wind spun, and then he let it die down, the previously airborne objects falling all around him.]
no subject
I wish I could do that...
no subject
[But would Tobias be able to do magic like Vaati could? He must be able to do SOME things, otherwise he wouldn't be going to Hogwarts for no reason. But as far as Vaati knew, the spell he'd just used only worked with him because he was from Hyrule -he didn't know where the other boy was from at all.]
Or you could wait for someone to teach you up at the castle. Your choice.
no subject
[The reply is instant, with no hesitation. He likes you too much for that, Vaati, and the idea of being able to actually use wind magic like that is amazing to him.]
I don't think they could do things like you could.
no subject
[Vaati brandished his right hand out in front of him, leaving his fist unclenched this time.]
...and try and feel the wind swirl around it. You probably won't get any results just yet but....
no subject
....and nothing happens. As expected. Of course, he's not stopping, even despite the fact that there really isn't a breeze in here since Vaati's own magic died down.]
no subject
[Honestly, Vaati hadn't expected much to happen, but Tobias seemed to be determined to keep trying. Really determined. In fact, he didn't look like he was going to stop any time soon.]
Wow, uh, you're really going all out here...
[...it was kind of admirable...]
no subject
[Yeah, good luck trying to decode that one, Vaati. Though the fact that you saw what you did earlier, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out part of it...]
